Individual therapy
I offer psychoanalytically-oriented psychotherapy for individuals in all stages of adulthood. This approach emphasizes uncovering the meanings and root causes of the problems that hold you back. Symptoms frequently serve hidden functions. When these functions can be revealed and understood in the context of a therapeutic relationship, it often becomes more possible to shift away from a strong, familiar pull.
While this work emphasizes listening for the familiar, it also values listening for the as-yet-unknown. The beauty, and challenge, of psychoanalysis is in the space it offers for things to take shape — space for us to be in the unknown without rushing for answers or solutions, so that your full complexity can emerge.
Couples therapy
Relationships have a unique way of revealing our achilles heels. Within partnerships, we are likely to experience the most vulnerable aspects of ourselves, and to repeat patterns we absorbed from very early in our lives. In couples therapy, you will benefit from a warm, neutral, focused space in which to honestly encounter one another. We will work together to understand and address areas of struggle so that you may inhabit your relationship more fully and with greater satisfaction.
I work with couples and partnerships of all sexual orientations and relationship configurations.
consultation
I work with clinicians who are seeking to hone their clinical voice, deepen their work, and navigate clinical impasses. I have expertise in working with higher-risk and higher-acuity patients, including those experiencing dissociation, psychosis, self-harm, and eating disorders, and can be of particular use in supporting clinicians with this type of work.
Building a Private Practice
Many clinicians desire support and community as they make decisions about fees, patient screening, professional development, and other key aspects of practice building. I am available to consult on an individual basis, and also will be starting a weekly consultation group in April 2024 to support therapists in this process.
